(TSXV: NIO) (OTCQB: NIOCF) Nio Métaux Stratégiques inc. announced the results of a metallurgical study on the sustainable and optimized development of niobium and other critical and strategic minerals (MCS) from the Oka deposit, conducted by IGS Impact Global Solutions for the Centre technologique des résidus industriels (CTRI) as part of the Éléments08 initiative. IGS analyzed 95 samples from historical drill cores from zones S60 and HWM2 to create a representative composite sample of the historical resource, with the composite CM7-A weighing 31,856.9 g and containing 0.646% Nb2O5 and 4.291% P2O5. Flotation tests on the metallurgical test composite produced an open-circuit pyrochlore concentrate grading 52.75% niobium pentoxide (Nb2O5) with a niobium recovery of 81.14%, compared to the 2011 feasibility study reference of 44.5% Nb2O5 at 71.7% recovery. The concentrate also contained 11.75% TREO (total rare earth oxides), including approximately 83% cerium oxide (CeO2), 9% neodymium oxide (Nd2O3), and 3% praseodymium oxide (Pr6O11), as well as 1.5% zirconium (Zr), equivalent to 2.0% zirconium oxide (ZrO2), and 0.4% tantalum (Ta), equivalent to 0.49% tantalum pentoxide (Ta2O5). The study demonstrated that thorium and uranium contents in residues could be reduced from 2,000 and 1,000 ppm to 824 and 120 ppm, respectively. IGS recommends additional tests to evaluate phosphate recovery during pyrochlore concentrate production. The company projects that the new approach could increase project value through improved niobium recovery, phosphate by-product recovery, and extraction of rare earth elements that would otherwise be lost.
