Axon Announces Body 5: Next-Generation Camera Built for the AI Era

(NASDAQ:AXON) Axon announced the launch of Axon Body 5, its newest body-worn camera designed to deliver enhanced intelligence, connectivity, and real-time support for officers in the field. The company is introducing two versions of the flagship camera: Axon Body 5 and Axon Body 5 Pro. Axon Body 5 delivers 25x the AI processing power of earlier-generation Axon body cameras, enabling support for current and future AI features directly on the device. Both models feature improved video quality, including better low-light performance, and enhanced connectivity for seamless operation in both urban and remote environments, with more precise location capabilities. The new cameras offer 20% more battery life than the previous generation, helping ensure readiness throughout an officer's shift. Additional hardware features include a near-focus camera for scanning driver's licenses and checking status or warrants in seconds, with information sent to Axon Fusus for real-time operations. Four front-facing speakers provide more powerful audio, supporting real-time translations from Axon Assistant in noisy environments. Extra memory allows the camera to run several AI tools simultaneously. Axon Body 5 is designed to integrate with the Axon AI Era Plan, bringing smart tools such as Draft One, which turns body-camera audio into report drafts, and Axon Assistant, which provides voice-based information access and real-time translation. The new Axon Guardian category of AI features within the AI Era Plan is designed to work with field-based devices to improve safety, including Escalation Detection, which can detect potential conflicts in real time and create alerts in Axon Fusus, and Approach Alert, which detects if the door of a stopped vehicle opens and alerts the officer. Axon's Responsible Innovation framework and independent Ethics and Equity Advisory Council guide the development and deployment of these technologies, prioritizing human oversight and agency control over data. General availability dates for Axon Body 5 and Axon Guardian will be announced soon. Product features and capabilities may vary by configuration.

The body-worn camera and digital evidence management deployments include translation tools to enhance operational transparency. The Dedrone platform is being used specifically for airspace security and counter-drone technology. The TASER 10 devices are intended to enhance the safety and capabilities of VA police officers. These contract awards demonstrate the growing adoption of Axon's public safety technology by federal entities. Axon is described as a global leader in public safety technology, providing a network that connects TASER energy devices, cameras and sensors, drones and robotics, digital evidence and records management, real-time operations, immersive training, productivity tools, and AI-driven capabilities. The company's solutions are designed to work together to create a connected picture of safety for people and places.

State Corrections Institutions Modernize Operations with Axon

(NASDAQ:AXON) Axon announced new Corrections deployments across four states, providing advanced public safety technology solutions to correctional agencies. Axon Corrections integrates real-time tools across facilities to enhance operational efficiency and visibility for staff. Agencies using these solutions have reported measurable improvements in safety, including reductions in staff assaults and use of force. The New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision (NYS DOCCS) has deployed Axon's connected ecosystem, which includes Body 4 cameras, Fusus, Fleet in-car video, Dedrone, and Skydio drones, across 42 facilities and 15,000 officers. NYS DOCCS is also testing additional AI tools. The Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction (ODRC), the first rehabilitation facility in the nation to adopt body-worn cameras, has added Axon TASER devices to reduce officer assaults and is piloting AI tools to support productivity and decision-making. The Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services (Maryland DPSCS) is adopting Axon Body 4 cameras across all 17 facilities after a successful trial period. During this trial, staff assaults in Maryland DPSCS dropped 40% in August compared to the same month last year. The North Carolina Department of Adult Correction (NCDAC) has expanded its connected technology platform to include additional TASER 10 energy weapons, Axon Body 4 cameras, Fusus real-time operations solution, Dedrone airspace security systems, and Skydio drones. NCDAC was the first correctional institution to deploy TASER 10 in 2022. NCDAC's Community Supervision department reported an 87% force avoidance rate, with 46 out of 53 incidents resolved by show of force alone. David Greene, Deputy Secretary of Operations at Maryland DPSCS, stated that body-worn cameras serve as an accountability tool and add protections for incarcerated individuals. He also expressed pride in joining other leading correctional institutions in implementing this technology and noted that positive results are already being observed.
